The #BSC60years book: an essential piece in #OSH history

This post is also available in: Aragonese, Spanish

The British Safety Council (est. 1957 by James Tye) is one of the world’s leading Health and Safety organisations (“British Safety Council,” n.d.)

Thus, 2017 is the BSC 60th anniversary. A remarkable milestone that is being celebrated with a number of year-round activities such as events, exhibitions, special membership offers, publications releases in a number of formats (historic films, a historic material archive, a year calendar, a purpose built section in the website). But above all, there is one outstanding piece that will go down, not just in the BSC history, but as an #OSH gem worldwide: meet the #BSC60years commemorative book…

Source: own elaboration

Basically, the book is a proud tribute to the BSC founder James Tye and the history, achievements and track-record of the organisation (Esbester, 2017)

Featuring a great deal of pictures, the book charts “the development of the British Safety Council in pictures that highlights changes to the economic, political and social life of the country that it sought to influence over the 60 year” (“British Safety Council | 60th Anniversary,” n.d.)

A finest hardcover edition that presents remarkable images of the historic posters, reports, draft documents, handwritten notes, letters, ads released in the media, files and folders, campaigns, photographs, newspapers and magazines clippings, and so on. A superb selection of the aforementioned online digital archive, freely available at https://www.britsafe.org/the-archive/.

Here a sample of the book showing the forward looking, yet disruptive, H&S approach of the organisation:

Plainly, thanks British Safety Council for this masterpiece, which deserves a prominent place in the OSH literature and libraries.
