This week is being held the XX Congress on Safety and Health at Work.

This is one of the most important worldwide events on labour risk prevention. It is organized, every three years, by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Social Security Association (ISSA).

This year´s edition, is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, and is also organized by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).

The 2014 congress´ motto is: “sharing a vision of sustainable prevention”.

The concept “sustainable prevention” makes reference to the safety and health strategy established by the organizations, how OSH is conceived within the corporate long term approaches, to the major policies set up by the companies.

The Congress´theme is targeted at the decision makers in the organizations, with a key idea:

“Prevention aimed at safe, healthy workplaces, only make sense if it is regarded as a crucial element of sustainability”

Dr. Walter Eichendorf, from the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV)

Thus, a new paradigm of risk prevention becomes institucionalized: occupational safety and health as a part of the sustainability strategies of the organizations.

In practice, this means that, in addition to the regulations and the client´s satisfaction, the OSH duties will also have to meet new standards among the sustainability criteria that organizations must establish in order to reach a proper development within a globalised world.

The XX Congress on Safety and Health at Work is, for its importance, the institucionalized the Age of the Sustainable Prevention.
